New York Mets 1 vs. New York Yankees 5
Friday, June 30, 9am - We slap on the “TOURIST” name tags and head out the Renaissance front door for a walk around midtown. We stopped by the Planet Hollywood flagship store and then walked to Rockefeller Center for the 11am NBC Studio Tour. The boys are keen for SNL so it was a treat to see the set. Charlie volunteered to play TV Weatherman and stood in front of a green screen and read the weather from a teleprompter for our entire tour group.
12:30pm - on the way back to the hotel, we stopped by several sights including St. Patrick’s Cathedral, The Peninsula Hotel, Tiffany & Co., and “whispering wall” at Grand Central Station.
4:30pm - we walked to the Q Train for one stop to Times Square, where we boarded a No. 7 Flushing Express train for Citi Field, and like magic, we are at the main entrance of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda within 30 minutes of leaving the hotel. We stake a spot by the left field foul pole and see the end of Mets batting practice and then the full Yankees BP. Several balls come screaming near us, but none are snagged.
7pm - we take our seats in the top tier of the stadium, high above the Yankee’s dugout. The Yankees jump out to a quick lead, and despite several threats from the Mets, the Yanks win easily.
9:30pm - Wishing to avoid the crush of humanity all vying for the same subway car at the same time, we retreat from our perch at Citi Field and catch the next 7 Local for Manhattan. We’re back in our room by 10:30.
