New York Yankees 5 vs. Milwaukee Brewers 2
Thursday, June 30, 8am - We are out of the hotel by 9am and northbound on the New Jersey Turnpike for the 100 mile trek to NYC. Traffic is cooperative; we drive nonstop all the way to the Lincoln Tunnel helix, where we topped off the gas tank and then slogged under the Hudson into Manhattan. After finding a miracle parking place on Broadway in Times Square, we checked into our hotel, changed into game gear, and headed for the Hertz office to ditch the sturdy GMC Acadia that had served us since Baltimore. Next we walked to Columbus Circle to catch the D Train. Within 25 minutes, we emerged from underground in the Bronx, just across the street from the home of the Evil Empire. Despite our universal hatred for the Yankees, it was cool to take the boys to this amazing baseball stadium. It is massive in every way.
Our seats were in the first row of the top level, near home plate. It was pure goat ranch, sun beating down, and no shade until the 5th inning. Sunscreen in hand, we wait out the creeping shade. CC Sabathia was awesome. Yankees win, theeeee Yankees Win!.
4:30 pm - we made our exit in the top of the 8th inning and made a beeline for the D Train. We jumped on the first express train and were within 1/2 block of our Times Square hotel in less than 30 minutes, all for $7.50.
6:00pm,- we walked around Times Square and grabbed a quick bite at a sushi bar in the Marriott Marquis and headed back for some TV and a well-earned sleep.
