S.F. Giants vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
July 28... Happy Birthday Stephen, P!
Phoenix, 6:30 am MT: Up for a quick breakfast in the concierge lounge and then out for a brisk swim at 7:30. What could be better... too early to need sunscreen and it’s only 100 degrees. By 9:30 we are off to the airport. We return our Hertz car to the needlessly-oversized car rental center at PHX Sky Harbor and proceed to our gate 30 minutes later. After an uneventful two hour flight, we arrive SFO, right on time. We take a cab to the hotel and are offered the choice of a regular room “right now,” or a “suite” in a couple of hours. We needed to go find lunch anyway, so we opted to wait for the bigger room.
San Francisco, 1:30pm PT: We consider a ride on the cable cars, but the queue is too long, so we hop in a cab for a trip to Fisherman’s Wharf. We down a speedy tourist-friendly lunch at Lori’s Diner and knock out some lightning-round sightseeing (the GGB was fogged in and not visible). Another cab back to the hotel and we are given keys to our room. The bellman tells us the room is the 2nd biggest in the hotel, which is considerable because it’s a big, 1,500 room property. Let’s just say our room is a bit over the top. Check out the “tour” the boys give... funny.
San Francisco, 5:15pm PT: We cab over to AT&T Park. The Giants are taking BP and we try for, but do not get close to any foul balls. The game is close, 3-2 Giants over the Pirates. The park is beautiful, and the consensus favorite of the trip so far.
San Francisco, 10:30pm PT: After the game, we walked back to the hotel, where we bumped into brother-in-law, George Harper, in SF for the week!
